After five hundred years, the Gupta dynasty is often known as the Golden Age of Indian culture because during this period of Indian history, there was peace, progress and prosperity. Great advances were made in art, literature and science. There was renewed enthusiasm in religions like Hinduism and the world's first universities were established.

The government system of Gupta is very organized. Gupta’s kings were the center of the administration. The empire was divided into several provinces each of them had viceroys who were appointed by a member of a royal family. Villages were organized under rural bodies that were consisted of its headman and village elders. There was also a council which had several officers such as the president of the city corporation, the chief representative of the guild of merchants, a representative of the artisans and the chief scribe.

          In Gupta there was sculpting and painting. The sculptures were focused on religious and spiritual things such as gods, and priests. The artist focused on poses and gestures of the figures. The most famous paintings were of caves. The art was known for worshipping gods. Sculpting and painting made great advances in Gupta.

          Literature was very important to people in Gupta. The Gupta kings encouraged literature. Literature became an important source of study in Gupta. Not only did the people in Gupta study Sanskrit literature but worldly literature such as poetry. They wrote poetry, fables, folktales, and plays. Literature also made the Gupta Empire stand out in pride.

          The Gupta Empire’s food supply seemed very stable. Good were easily moved throughout the country with pack animals. Ox carts were used to transport goods by road. Gupta traded with parts of East Africa. India ships imported goods overseas. Gupta’s food supply was well organized.

          The official religion of the Gupta Empire was Hinduism. Hinduism was the third largest religion. Hinduism is a religion with various gods and goddesses. According to Hinduism, three Lords rule the world. The painting and sculptures made by artists in Gupta were of gods they worshipped.

The Gupta script, which is also known as the Gupta Brahmi was used for writing Sanskrit in the Gupta Empire. Sanskrit existed from about 320 to 550 AD. It was developed into the Devanagari, Sharada and Siddham scripts. Gupta scripts have been found mainly on iron or stone pillars, and on numerous gold coins from the Gupta Dynasty. Sanskrit was very beneficial in Gupta.

The social structure of Gupta was depending on others such as Byzantine and Caliphate Empires. Laves and some freemen worked in homes of the upper classes, like the senators and patricians. Soldiers also mixed with their officers. A Roman society also involved a system of patronage.  Members of the upper classes (the patroni) offered protection to freedmen or plebeians, who became their clines. Patronage may have consisted of money, food, or legal help traditionally.

Gupta was a very unique place to do. Their food supply and social structure need more work but that is a very organized country. The rulers were very supportive about literature which is very good. The writing is challenging but if you stay there I guess it wouldn’t be. Gupta is an amazing and interesting country.

Chelsea's Literary History

The subject of reading has impact my life tremendously. In Kindergarten I learned how write, count and say my ABC’s.  By 1^st grade I was reading small paperback books with little help. In 2^nd grade I could read books a little bigger and more challenging. 3^rd grade is when I started liking chapter books and loved to read books that I wouldn’t normally read. In 4^th grade I liked Chicken Soup books I read those books majority of the year. In 5^th grade I read twilight books closer to the end of the year I lost interest in those and started reading other books from a movie. In 6^th grade I read Bluford High books, Sharon Draper books, and Sharon Flake books. All these books have expanded my vocabulary and imagination.  

          In Kindergarten I learned my ABC’s, how to count, read and write. Reading groups were made based on what level you read on. The books were always something we were familiar with. Sometimes we got to choose. We read aloud to the whole group and if we messed up we had depend on our group members to help us. We also made a book, on every page there was a different story by a different student.  Kindergarten was like a pretest for all my other grades.

          In 1^st grade books got bigger, stories got longer and reading group started answering questions about the books. I read paperback books alone and it would take about a day to finish one of them. Our warm up was to complete a reading worksheet was given and read silently. By the end of 1^st grade I could read on a higher level and was a wonderful writer.

          In 2^nd grade I was reading Junie B. Jones books, and Magic School Bus books. My teacher read aloud to us a book the class chose. In our reading groups we read nonfiction books. We started to learn how to summarize what we read. When we did writing prompts to revise and edit, we traded papers and took ideas from our classmates. Then we would have to read it over to see if it made sense to us since we were the writers. In 2^nd grade I learned what books were interesting to me and what books I needed to try.

          In 3^rd grade Beverly Clearly books were very interesting to me. I also liked Wayside School books. When we went to library our librarian taught us how to find books. Once I learned that I started to read more than just Beverly Cleary books and Wayside School books which my teacher thought was good because I could expand my imagination with other ideas. We would read aloud to the class, everyday a different student was assigned to read and give a detailed summary about the book without using the back of the book. 3^rd grade is a big part of my reading history.

          In 4^th grade I was still reading Wayside School books and Beverly Clearly books but I started to like Chicken Soup books. I really got into the books I read and could comprehend what was going on. In the Chicken Soup books I could relate to some of the stories in there which made the book more interesting because I was hearing someone else’s story that was similar to mine. Sometimes it helped me solve my problems. Summarizing was like a warm up every day, we summarized what we read while we were at home. We also made goals for how long we wanted to be on each book. That also encouraged me to keep reading.

          In 5^th grade Twilight books were the only books I read. The book was so interesting which made me want to read more because I thought I had to find out what happened after something. Closer to the end of the year I didn’t like Twilight books because I started reading Chicken Soup books again. The more I read the more I understood how attitudes could change anything or how losing a family member could ruin a whole family. I felt like an adult in the reading world during 5^th grade.

          In 6^th grade I found Bluford High books, Sharon Flake books and Sharon Draper books. Those types of books were romantic, harsh, and sentimental at the same time. They were interesting to me because you never knew what was coming next so you would keep reading to find out. The books were realistic and I had a vision of everything they said was going on in the book instead of thinking about other things while reading. As I read these books I learned a lot about high school, the real world, and life in general.

          Reading has made me the person I am today because if it wasn’t for reading I wouldn’t know what to expect in the life. I wouldn’t know how react to some stuff I see and hear if I didn’t read. Reading is a humongous part of my life. 

Letter!

I just got a letter that said I was nominated for 2011 Joseph Baldwin Scholars for Eminent Young Academy. I could complete the 7th,8th or 9th grade at the end of 2010-2011 and score at the 95th percentile or hgher on a nationally standardized achievement exam. I'm sooo happy I going to go home and work on my essay so I can get excepted. BYE BYE NORTH MIDDLE!!!

There's Someone In This World....

There's someone in this world that thinks that when I do something wrong its cute. There's someone in this world that I can trust,love and always care about. There's someone in this world that I can run to when I need someone. There's someone in this world that doesn't really care about the Chelsea on the outside but cares about the Chelsea on the inside. There's someone in this world for me and only me. Who is that person? I need to know now! I wish I could see what God has in store for me. I guess for now I'll just have to stick to my dreams..
